Files with the extension XLW are used by the spreadsheet Microsoft Excel to save workspaces. The files contain information about the screen positions of worksheets and folders, as well as references to the corresponding files.
The XLW file does not contain the actual tables.
Different versions of Microsoft Excel used this extension for saving workspaces. Starting with the 2007 version, only this file extension will be used, with older versions the extension xls is more common.

Most often resolving problems with opening XLW files is very simple. Just install an appropriate program that supports such files. Some programs may be capable only of viewing contents of XLW files or offer file conversion options, but may not be capable of editing such files.
It is possible that although a compatible program has been installed on user’s system, it is not used by the system to open it.
