The file extension QXP is used by the layout software QuarkXpress for project files. Qxp files include layout or design information, text and images of single or multi-page documents.
QuarkXPress is a desktop publishing software used primarily by print shops, publishers, and advertising agencies to design and print draft publications, catalogs, and other high-quality print products.
QXP is a proprietary format that can only be opened and edited using QuarkXPress and Adobe InDesign (using the Markzware Q2ID plug-in). If you do not have access to one of the programs, you should ask the creator to export the QXP file as a pdf or eps file. These file formats can be imported into many more (even free) programs and continue to edit.
It should also be noted that the QXP format was introduced by Quark with version 6.0 and the old extension qxd has been replaced. Qxp files can not be read in the older versions of quarkXPress.
Most often resolving problems with opening QXP files is very simple. Just install an appropriate program that supports such files. All of the listed programs support QXP files, but may vary in offered function and purpose. Some programs may be capable only of viewing contents of QXP files or offer file conversion options, but may not be capable of editing such files.
It is possible that although a compatible program has been installed on user’s system, it is not used by the system to open it. This may happen because no default application was associated with this type of files. To associate QXP files with given application, select "Open with" from drop-down menu (accessed by right-clicking on the file). Then select from the list the program or application you want to be used to open this type of file. If the QuarkXPress applications is not on the list, select "Browse" option in order to manually locate the directory where QuarkXPress has been installed.
Sometimes problems with opening QXP files may not lie with the application itself, but can arise due to other causes, such as:
