The file extension CPI marks so-called AVCHD video clip information files. These "video snippets" of information files are generated by various digital video camcorders and contain metadata describing the AVCHD video stream. These include the frame rate, shooting date and aspect ratio. The actual video data is stored in AVCHD mts file.
CPI files are usually located in 'AVCHD / BDMV / CLIPINF' on the storage device of the recording device and are normally only needed when playing a recording directly from the device itself or when transferring to an optical disc. Video editing programs that support AVCHD do not need CPI files.
AVCHD (Advanced Video Coding High Definition) is a standard for file-based recording and playback of high-definition video. Developed by Sony and Panasonic, it is mainly used in camcorders for the consumer market.
Most often resolving problems with opening CPI files is very simple. Just install an appropriate program that supports such files. All of the listed programs support CPI files, but may vary in offered function and purpose. Some programs may be capable only of viewing contents of CPI files or offer file conversion options, but may not be capable of editing such files.
It is possible that although a compatible program has been installed on user’s system, it is not used by the system to open it. This may happen because no default application was associated with this type of files. To associate CPI files with given application, select "Open with" from drop-down menu (accessed by right-clicking on the file). Then select from the list the program or application you want to be used to open this type of file. If the Roxio Popcorn applications is not on the list, select "Browse" option in order to manually locate the directory where Roxio Popcorn has been installed.
Sometimes problems with opening CPI files may not lie with the application itself, but can arise due to other causes, such as:
