ACT files are Adobe Color Table files, which are color tables for the image editing software Adobe Photoshop and the vector graphics software Fireworks. Act files contain so-called indexed colors and serve as CLUT (Color Lookup Table).
For example, color table files are used in webpage image preparation to store images in web-safe colors. For example, if you choose 'save for internet', you can load an ACT color table to colorize the image.
ACT files can be created just like aco swatches create files. You can access the color tables in Photoshop by clicking on the little arrow in the Swatches window. Photoshop also offers a few included color tables, including Windows, Mac or Black and White.
Note, however, that indexed colors are only supported by gif and png-8, but not by jpeg or bmp.
Most often resolving problems with opening ACT files is very simple. Just install an appropriate program that supports such files. All of the listed programs support ACT files, but may vary in offered function and purpose. Some programs may be capable only of viewing contents of ACT files or offer file conversion options, but may not be capable of editing such files.
It is possible that although a compatible program has been installed on user’s system, it is not used by the system to open it. This may happen because no default application was associated with this type of files. To associate ACT files with given application, select "Open with" from drop-down menu (accessed by right-clicking on the file). Then select from the list the program or application you want to be used to open this type of file. If the Logipole Konvertor applications is not on the list, select "Browse" option in order to manually locate the directory where Logipole Konvertor has been installed.
Sometimes problems with opening ACT files may not lie with the application itself, but can arise due to other causes, such as:
