The file extension XLTX features template files of the spreadsheet Microsoft Excel. An XLTX file contains formatting and data that form the basis for creating multiple xlsx workbooks with the same properties. The extension means Office Open XLM Excel Template.
The template files can be created by the user himself or come from third-party suppliers or Microsoft itself.
As of version 2007, Excel uses the extension XLTX for normal templates and xltm for templates with macros. Later versions used the file extension xlt.
Office Open XML is an XML based file format that is not legible with older versions of Excel. For the Office versions 2000, 2003 and XP, this functionality can be corrected with the help of the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack, whereby the result of an imported XLTX file does not always have to correspond 100% to the original. There may also be restrictions when processing the macros.
Office Open XML is an open Bro Bro applications standard developed by Microsoft to provide file sharing between different Office suites.
An XLTX file consists of several XML files, which are automatically summarized as archives when saved using the ZIP algorithm. This saves space compared to the old format. Other benefits include better data integrity and easier data recovery in case of data loss.
Most often resolving problems with opening XLTX files is very simple. Just install an appropriate program that supports such files. All of the listed programs support XLTX files, but may vary in offered function and purpose. Some programs may be capable only of viewing contents of XLTX files or offer file conversion options, but may not be capable of editing such files.
It is possible that although a compatible program has been installed on user’s system, it is not used by the system to open it. This may happen because no default application was associated with this type of files. To associate XLTX files with given application, select "Open with" from drop-down menu (accessed by right-clicking on the file). Then select from the list the program or application you want to be used to open this type of file. If the Microsoft Excel applications is not on the list, select "Browse" option in order to manually locate the directory where Microsoft Excel has been installed.
Sometimes problems with opening XLTX files may not lie with the application itself, but can arise due to other causes, such as:
