The file extension XCEL was used by the Microsoft Excel for Mac spreadsheets spreadsheet.
These files contain data in cells organized in columns and rows. In addition, the files may also contain graphics, formulas and macros. Unfortunately, these macros can also contain malicious code, which is why it is advisable, especially for files from unknown sources, to subject them to a virus check before executing the macros.
The default version for these types of files is xls or xlsx on newer versions.
