The extension WIZ identifies files that contain a Microsoft Office Wizard. These files are executable and are used by programs such as Word. They contain templates, macros, and user interface elements. They guide the user step-by-step through complex tasks or facilitate repetitive tasks. Assistants (wizards) can be created as add-ins for Microsoft Office programs. They are often referred to as assistants in German versions of Microsoft Office.
For example, WIZ files can be created by opening a template, adding macros, and saving it as a template. This ending then changes to wiz. Supplied WIZ files can sometimes be edited by modifying the macrocodes.
Some WIZ files are protected by encryption and therefore can not be edited.

Some programs may be capable only of viewing contents of WIZ files or offer file conversion options, but may not be capable of editing such files.
It is possible that although a compatible program has been installed on user’s system, it is not used by the system to open it. This may happen because no default application was associated with this type of files. To associate WIZ files with given application, select "Open with" from drop-down menu (accessed by right-clicking on the file). Then select from the list the program or application you want to be used to open this type of file. If the Microsoft Word applications is not on the list, select "Browse" option in order to manually locate the directory where Microsoft Word has been installed.
Sometimes problems with opening WIZ files may not lie with the application itself, but can arise due to other causes, such as:
