The suffix QBB is used by the financial accounting software Quickbooks. A QBB file is a backup, a backup of the actual work data stored in a qwb file.
Just like a qwb file, the QBB backup file contains all the data from the financial data, templates and logos to the letters and images. These backup files are created by the Quickbook software via the backup function and used in case of loss of the qwb file or a damaged qwb file. The restore function lets you restore QBB files. If you open the QBB file directly in Quickbooks, it may be necessary to change the extension to qwb.
Since the QBB file is a backup file, you should store such files in a different location (other hard disk, other machine, USB stick, DVD) than the working files. Thus, the QBB files can not be damaged in the event of a hard disk defect or virus attack.
Unfortunately, if QBB files of an older version of Quickbooks are read in with a newer version, Quickbooks unfortunately does not convert this file without automatically backing up this backup file. After this conversion, this file can no longer be read by an older version of QuickBooks. If you want to keep this possibility open, it is recommended to create a duplicate of the QBB files.
Since qbw or Qbb is a proprietary format, such files can only be opened by Quickbooks itself. Intuit Quickbooks are available for Windows and Mac OSX.
Most often resolving problems with opening QBB files is very simple. Just install an appropriate program that supports such files. All of the listed programs support QBB files, but may vary in offered function and purpose. Some programs may be capable only of viewing contents of QBB files or offer file conversion options, but may not be capable of editing such files.
It is possible that although a compatible program has been installed on user’s system, it is not used by the system to open it. This may happen because no default application was associated with this type of files. To associate QBB files with given application, select "Open with" from drop-down menu (accessed by right-clicking on the file). Then select from the list the program or application you want to be used to open this type of file. If the QuickBooks applications is not on the list, select "Browse" option in order to manually locate the directory where QuickBooks has been installed.
Sometimes problems with opening QBB files may not lie with the application itself, but can arise due to other causes, such as:
