The extension PXL identifies spreadsheets created by the Pocket PC version of the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. It corresponds to an xls file robbed of some functionalities, but uses a different format.
It contains data in cells organized in columns and rows. In addition, the files may also contain graphics, formulas and macros.
The pocket version of Excel can also save normal xsl files, which is preferable because of the greater compatibility. Excel Pocket PC was part of Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003. The successor is now called Excel Mobile and is included as part of Office Mobile on Windows Mobile 5.0.
Older versions of Microsoft Active Sync can convert the files.
Most often resolving problems with opening PXL files is very simple. Just install an appropriate program that supports such files. Some programs may be capable only of viewing contents of PXL files or offer file conversion options, but may not be capable of editing such files.
It is possible that although a compatible program has been installed on user’s system, it is not used by the system to open it. This may happen because no default application was associated with this type of files. To associate PXL files with given application, select "Open with" from drop-down menu (accessed by right-clicking on the file). Then select from the list the program or application you want to be used to open this type of file. If the NeoOffice applications is not on the list, select "Browse" option in order to manually locate the directory where NeoOffice has been installed.
Sometimes problems with opening PXL files may not lie with the application itself, but can arise due to other causes, such as:
