Files ending in PCD contain bitmap images in Kodak Photo CD format. This format was developed by Kodak as an extension of the CD-ROM standard to store digital images on CD.
The format uses a proprietary compression method and supports various resolutions. The format is designed so that the CD can contain a picture in several resolutions. From the preview image with 128x128 pixels up to the professional archive image with 4096x6144.
Many programs support the image format, but many are subject to restrictions. For example, some may not read an image in all resolutions, or have trouble using color profiles correctly.
The Kodak Photo CD has since been replaced by the Kodak Picture CD.

All of the listed programs support PCD files, but may vary in offered function and purpose. Some programs may be capable only of viewing contents of PCD files or offer file conversion options, but may not be capable of editing such files.
It is possible that although a compatible program has been installed on user’s system, it is not used by the system to open it. This may happen because no default application was associated with this type of files. To associate PCD files with given application, select "Open with" from drop-down menu (accessed by right-clicking on the file). Then select from the list the program or application you want to be used to open this type of file. If the Adobe Photoshop applications is not on the list, select "Browse" option in order to manually locate the directory where Adobe Photoshop has been installed.
Sometimes problems with opening PCD files may not lie with the application itself, but can arise due to other causes, such as:
