OPF files are XML-based files in the Open Packaging Format Standard. The OPF standard is part of the EPUB specification and stores metadata such as title, language, categories and author of an ebook. In addition, images and the navigation structure are referenced in an OPF file.
An EPUB publication usually contains a file called Content.Opf and an associated toc.Ncx file with the table of contents. The actual content pages are html files without which an OPF file can not be meaningfully used.

This may happen because no default application was associated with this type of files. To associate OPF files with given application, select "Open with" from drop-down menu (accessed by right-clicking on the file). Then select from the list the program or application you want to be used to open this type of file. If the Adobe Digital Editions applications is not on the list, select "Browse" option in order to manually locate the directory where Adobe Digital Editions has been installed.
