The file extension MPV identifies video files that have been compressed using the MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 method. This is a so-called elementary stream, which contains only the video stream (without sound).
In principle, most video players and editing programs should be able to handle MPV files. However, if the extension MPV is not recognized or it does not appear in the file chooser, changing the extension to mpg can help.
Most often resolving problems with opening MPV files is very simple. Just install an appropriate program that supports such files.
