Files with the extension MHT contain a web page archive. The exact name is MIME Encapsulation of Aggregate HTML Documents. These files contain a saved website including all media and links. The media such as images etc. are coded in the MIME standard and referenced so that they are displayed correctly in a browser. Also the internal links are redirected correctly. To display an MHT file neither further files nor an internet connection are necessary.
Opera, Microsoft Word, Internet Explorer, and browsers can create and display MHT files. Mozilla Firefox requires an MHT plugin.
Most often resolving problems with opening MHT files is very simple. Just install an appropriate program that supports such files. All of the listed programs support MHT files, but may vary in offered function and purpose. Some programs may be capable only of viewing contents of MHT files or offer file conversion options, but may not be capable of editing such files.
It is possible that although a compatible program has been installed on user’s system, it is not used by the system to open it. This may happen because no default application was associated with this type of files.
