The file extension ICC identifies so-called ICC profile files. ICC profiles are color profiles standardized by the International Color Consortium (ICC) that describe the working color space of an output or playback device such as a scanner, printer or monitor.
This is to ensure that the colors are reproduced as identically as possible in the process from image acquisition to processing to output. With ICC profiles, the devices are color matched.
Under Windows, the color profile files sometimes have the extension icm. You can easily install ICC and icm files by double-clicking or using the 'context menu -> install profile'. Usually, however, it makes more sense to use the desired color profile only in the program used. Programs such as Photoshop or PaintShop have their own color management.
In addition, there are several programs that can graphically represent ICC color profiles for analysis.
Most often resolving problems with opening ICC files is very simple. Just install an appropriate program that supports such files. All of the listed programs support ICC files, but may vary in offered function and purpose. Some programs may be capable only of viewing contents of ICC files or offer file conversion options, but may not be capable of editing such files.
It is possible that although a compatible program has been installed on user’s system, it is not used by the system to open it. This may happen because no default application was associated with this type of files. To associate ICC files with given application, select "Open with" from drop-down menu (accessed by right-clicking on the file). Then select from the list the program or application you want to be used to open this type of file. If the Adobe Photoshop applications is not on the list, select "Browse" option in order to manually locate the directory where Adobe Photoshop has been installed.
Sometimes problems with opening ICC files may not lie with the application itself, but can arise due to other causes, such as:
