What is FT11 file?

The file extension FT11 was used for templates of freehand graphics software Freehand version 11, also known as Freehand MX. In these templates, various settings such as dimensions and graphic elements can be included, which serve as a basis for a design (eg business cards, flyers).

Freehand was originally developed by Altsys and distributed by Aldus. In 1994 Freehand was bought by Macromedia. After Adobe took over the company, the development of Freehand was discontinued in favor of Adobe Illustrator. Freehand is still available in the MX version, but only supports older versions of Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac OSX.

Usually the number of the Freehand version is appended to the extension ft, eg Ft8. Many programs only support opening files with these special endings.

Some programs may be capable only of viewing contents of FT11 files or offer file conversion options, but may not be capable of editing such files.

Set Adobe Illustrator as the default program for opening FT11 files

It is possible that although a compatible program has been installed on user’s system, it is not used by the system to open it. This may happen because no default application was associated with this type of files. To associate FT11 files with given application, select "Open with" from drop-down menu (accessed by right-clicking on the file). Then select from the list the program or application you want to be used to open this type of file. If the Adobe Illustrator applications is not on the list, select "Browse" option in order to manually locate the directory where Adobe Illustrator has been installed.
