The FH7 file suffix features documents of the vector sign and illustration program Freehand in version 7 of Macromedia. These files contain 2D vector drawings.
Freehand was originally developed by Altsys and distributed by Aldus. In 1994 Freehand was bought by Macromedia. After Adobe took over the company, the development of Freehand was discontinued in favor of Adobe Illustrator. Freehand is still available in the MX version, but only supports older versions of Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac OSX.
Usually the number of the Freehand version is appended to the extension fh, eg Fh8. Many programs only support opening files with these special endings.
Most often resolving problems with opening FH7 files is very simple. Just install an appropriate program that supports such files. All of the listed programs support FH7 files, but may vary in offered function and purpose. Some programs may be capable only of viewing contents of FH7 files or offer file conversion options, but may not be capable of editing such files.
It is possible that although a compatible program has been installed on user’s system, it is not used by the system to open it. This may happen because no default application was associated with this type of files. To associate FH7 files with given application, select "Open with" from drop-down menu (accessed by right-clicking on the file). Then select from the list the program or application you want to be used to open this type of file. If the Adobe FreeHand applications is not on the list, select "Browse" option in order to manually locate the directory where Adobe FreeHand has been installed.
Sometimes problems with opening FH7 files may not lie with the application itself, but can arise due to other causes, such as:
