DVF files are compressed audio files (voice recordings) produced by Sony dictation devices such as the ICD-BP150 or ICD-BP100. The digital voice file is a proprietary format that is only understood by the Sony software.
This software is included with the devices and can also convert the DVF files to Wav. Alternatively, Sony provides a plugin (Sony Player Plugin) for the Windows Media Player, so that DVF files can also be played back.

This may happen because no default application was associated with this type of files. To associate DVF files with given application, select "Open with" from drop-down menu (accessed by right-clicking on the file). Then select from the list the program or application you want to be used to open this type of file. If the Windows Media Player applications is not on the list, select "Browse" option in order to manually locate the directory where Windows Media Player has been installed.
