The file extension _V marks files for so-called Japanese font metrics of the Adobe Type Manager. Adobe Font Manager is a program for displaying PostScript-1 fonts on the computer and outputting them correctly to non-PostScript printers. The deluxe version of the Adobe Type Manager also provides font manipulation.
Since both Mac OSX and Windows since version 2000 PostScript fonts can represent, the ATM is no longer necessary. For older operating systems, the ATM Light from Adobe is still available for free download.

Most often resolving problems with opening _V files is very simple. Just install an appropriate program that supports such files. All of the listed programs support _V files, but may vary in offered function and purpose. Some programs may be capable only of viewing contents of _V files or offer file conversion options, but may not be capable of editing such files.
It is possible that although a compatible program has been installed on user’s system, it is not used by the system to open it. This may happen because no default application was associated with this type of files.
