With the file extension 8BI plugins for the image editing software Adobe Photoshop are marked. With these plugins, additional functionalities, such as new effects or the support of other graphics formats in Photoshop can be retrofitted.
8BI files come in the plugin folder, which is inside the main Photoshop folder. It should be noted that not all plugins are compatible with all versions of Photoshop and when using the 64-bit version usually also a customized version of the plug-in is necessary.
In addition, one must select the plugins for its platform, since those for Windows Photoshop do not work with the Mac version of Photoshop. However, the plugins for the Mac version usually have no extension or the official extension 8bam.
In addition to some commercial plugins, there are also many free plugins, such as ICOFormat.8bi which allows Photoshop to load and save Windows icons (ico files). Also offered by Adobe Camera Raw.8bi for importing various raw formats of various cameras is available free of charge.
To see if a plugin is installed correctly, you can display a list of all installed plugins in the submenu Plugins (Windows: Help, Mac OSX: Photoshop). In addition to Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Photoshop Elements and a whole range of other Adobe applications have a plug-in interface for 8BI files. Only Corel offers, among other things with PaintShop Photo Pro as a third party software, which can use 8BI files.
Most often resolving problems with opening 8BI files is very simple. Just install an appropriate program that supports such files. All of the listed programs support 8BI files, but may vary in offered function and purpose. Some programs may be capable only of viewing contents of 8BI files or offer file conversion options, but may not be capable of editing such files.
It is possible that although a compatible program has been installed on user’s system, it is not used by the system to open it. This may happen because no default application was associated with this type of files. To associate 8BI files with given application, select "Open with" from drop-down menu (accessed by right-clicking on the file).
